Aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul companies need to be certified before being allowed to start their operations. The certification has to be granted in each country where the company runs an operative business. To become an Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) for civil aviation, a list of specifications has to be met. Permission is restricted to those tasks, methods, aircraft models, aircraft parts and locations for which the organisation has applied.
